Apa Itu n8n?
n8n (sebut: “n-eight-n”, short untuk “nodemation”) ialah workflow automation tool open-source yang boleh di-host sendiri atau guna cloud version mereka.
Kekuatan utama:
- Open-source — source code public, komuniti kuat, tak lock-in
- Self-hostable — boleh host di Zeabur, Railway, Hetzner, atau VPS anda sendiri. Kos predictable (RM 20–50/bulan untuk VPS kecil)
- Custom code node — boleh tulis JavaScript atau Python dalam workflow. Bagi flexibility yang Make/Zapier tak bagi
- AI-first — native support untuk OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, vector databases
- Execution-based billing (cloud), bukan per-task — lebih murah untuk workflow kompleks
Kelemahan:
- Learning curve lebih tinggi — UI bagi technical, bukan “click and drag” macam Zapier
- Integration library lebih kecil (400+ vs 7,000+ Zapier) — tapi HTTP Request node bagi anda connect ke mana-mana API custom

Apa Itu Make (dulu Integromat)?
Make ialah visual workflow tool yang dulunya dikenali sebagai Integromat. Dibeli oleh Celonis, dan telah rebrand 2022.
Kekuatan utama:
- Visual UI paling cantik — workflow dipapar sebagai bubble yang sambung macam flowchart. Senang nak visualize apa yang berlaku
- Granular control — boleh filter, map, dan transform data dengan precision tinggi
- 1,700+ integration — lebih banyak daripada n8n, lebih sedikit daripada Zapier
- Free tier yang generous — 1,000 operations/bulan percuma, cukup untuk workflow ringan
Kelemahan:
- Per-operation billing boleh jadi mahal — setiap “modul” dalam workflow kira 1 operation. Workflow 10-step yang run 1,000 kali = 10,000 operations
- Custom code sangat terhad — ada JS node tapi limited runtime
- Tiada self-host — cloud only, susah kalau data awak sensitive
Apa Itu Zapier?
Zapier ialah pioneer automation SaaS — start 2011, paling besar dan paling banyak integration.
Kekuatan utama:
- Paling mudah — UI simple, “when this happens, do that”
- 7,000+ integration — hampir semua SaaS tool ada
- Ecosystem besar — template, community, tutorial berlimpah
- AI features built-in (Zapier Copilot, AI actions)
Kelemahan:
- Paling mahal untuk volume sederhana ke atas
- Free tier sangat terhad — 100 tasks/bulan, cukup untuk 1-2 workflow basic
- Limited multi-step logic di plan rendah
- Tiada self-host

Mana Satu Untuk Use Case Saya?

Make free tier (1,000 ops/bulan) biasanya cukup untuk:

- Notifikasi order ke Telegram

Kalau nak zero ongoing cost, n8n self-host di VPS RM 20/bulan boleh handle volume ni without sweat.
SME dengan multi-workflow (5,000–20,000 actions/bulan)
Recommendation: n8n self-host, atau Make Pro
Pada volume ni, Zapier jadi mahal dengan cepat. Make Pro (~RM 75/bulan) masih bagus value. Tapi kalau workflow anda involve custom logic (contoh: conditional routing complex, custom API transformation), n8n self-host bagi flexibility + kos tetap.
Enterprise-adjacent / data-sensitive (banking, healthcare, gov)
Recommendation: n8n self-host (on-prem atau VPC)
Anda nak data jangan keluar Malaysia? Host n8n di server anda sendiri. Compliance-friendly, audit-friendly, dan kos tetap.
Team yang tak ada technical person
Recommendation: Zapier
UI paling mesra, paling banyak template ready-to-use, support paling mudah dapat (sebab ecosystem besar). Mahal sikit tapi team anda boleh self-serve without coding.
Apa Yang Saya Guna untuk Klien
Saya biasa guna n8n self-host sebagai default untuk kebanyakan klien SME Malaysia, sebab:
- Kos predictable — klien bayar RM 20–50/bulan untuk VPS, bukan per-operation charge yang boleh melambung
- Data kekal di Malaysia — boleh host di DigitalOcean Singapore atau Hetzner, data tak lompat ke US
- Boleh custom JavaScript/Python — untuk logic yang Make/Zapier tak support
- AI integration native — tak payah bayar extra subscription untuk OpenAI connector
Tapi untuk klien yang:
- Nak self-serve dan tak ada technical person → saya setup di Zapier
- Workflow simple dan volume rendah → saya rekomen Make free tier (kadangkala cukup, jimat duit klien)
Takde satu tool yang “paling bagus” untuk semua situasi. Decision matrix adalah: volume × complexity × in-house technical skill.
Common Misconceptions
“Open-source = tak reliable.” Salah. n8n ada company backing (n8n GmbH), funding venture, dan enterprise clients besar. Open-source bermakna anda boleh audit code dan tak stuck kalau vendor tutup shop.
“Zapier paling mahal = paling bagus.” Salah. Zapier paling mahal sebab paling luas integration + marketing budget yang besar. Tapi untuk workflow kompleks, anda bayar premium untuk limitation (tiada deep custom code).
“Make sama macam n8n.” Salah. UI serupa (node-based) tapi underlying philosophy berbeza. Make closed-source, per-operation billing; n8n open-source, execution-based billing, self-hostable.
“Saya perlu technical person untuk guna n8n.” Separa-salah. Setup awal memang need technical hand (terutama self-host). Tapi lepas workflow dah running, update dan maintenance boleh buat via UI — macam Make atau Zapier.
